PRUNING:  When not removing trees, much of our time is spent trimming (to benefit people) and pruning (to benefit trees).  We commonly trim trees to reduce overhead hazards, improve sunlight and airflow near buildings and provide mountain views.  We prune trees to promote health, growth and form.  We generally do not use climbing spikes in trees as they leave unsightly scars that lead to stress and disease.  Additionally, we generally do not top trees as it is damaging, provides only short-term benefits and is no longer considered acceptable within the industry.
